Wake Up
Director - Steve Hutensky
DVD AUD26.95

|
|
Jonas Elrod was leading an ordinary
life until he woke up one day to a totally new
reality. He suddenly could see and hear angels,
demons, auras and ghosts. The documentary movie
Wake Up follows this fascinating story of an average
guy who inexplicably developed the ability to
access other dimensions. Physicians gave him a
clean bill of health and were unable to provide
an explanation. What was it? Why was it happening
to him?
One thing was certain for this 36-year
old man - life as he had known it would never
be the same. With his loving but skeptical girlfriend
by his side, Jonas crisscrosses the country as
he searches for answers and delves deeper into
this thrilling world of the phenomenal and spiritual.
Along the way, he encounters an amazing group
of religious teachers, scientists, mystics and
spiritual healers who help him piece together
this intricate puzzle.
The film shows how all of us can
search inward for our own peace and happiness
while contributing towards a positive shift in
global consciousness. WAKE UP is a call to consciousness
to everyone who sees it; an invitation to accept
that there is more to this life than meets the
eye.
WAKE UP had its festival premiere
at South by Southwest Film Festival in March 2009.

Harmony in Diversity
H.H. the Dalai Lama
DVD AUD30.00

|
|
On May 29, 1997, His Holiness the
14th Dalai Lama of Tibet addressed an audience
of dignitaries and citizens in New York City's
Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
Join them for this extraordinary
live presentation as His Holiness offers a far-reaching
vision of the universal harmony that awaits in
the celebration of diversity. In an occasionally
humorous and always graceful message of compassion
and wisdom, the Dalai Lama speaks of personal
and universal themes. Our future is dependent
on our ability to build relationships and communities
that bind
us to common aspirations. Our world
is, in his words, "a human garden,"
beautiful because many different flowers grow
in it.
To help it grow, His Holiness urges
us to foster caring and respect for the many spiritual
and cultural traditions in our world. Only by
nurturing and teaching our children and each other,
and protecting the world we share, will we move
from a century of violence to a new century of
dialogue in which individual efforts create a
mass movement toward a world of lasting peace
and freedom.

familiar treasures. Of the former, there's

like Karma Frequency, E-Mulation, Von Mundo
and others, who add a cool twist to the
traditional sounds of yoga music. Pick up

Wintersong
Sarah McLachlan
CD AUD29.95

|
|
Sarah McLachlan is one of
today's most beautiful and expressive vocal
talents. Her music has long held a balance
between alternative folk rock and adult-contemporary
pop, tempering the former with softness
while adding edge to the latter.
On WINTERSONG, her first holiday
endeavor, McLachlan paints a wintry landscape
that stays true to form, with melodies that
are dreamy yet bittersweet. Her voice, with
its whispery softness that is occasionally
cracked by a yearning soprano and a lilt
that recalls Irish "sean-nos"
singing, sounds gorgeous on this release,
fitting well with the material.
Long time producer Pierre
Marchand fills the album with arrangements
that break from the norm, like a rendition
of "What Child is This?" that
uses a waltzing minor key version of the
melody and velvety smooth vocals. Another
highlight is her rendition of Vince Guaraldi's
"Christmas Time is Here," with
guest Diana Krall.

Secret Garden
Earthsong
DVD AUD29.95

|
|
With four previous albums
to their name and a major hit with the song
"You Raise Me Up" (covered by
a multitude of artists including Josh Groban),
Secret Garden has established themselves
as a consistent source of quality neo-Celtic
music.
EARTHSONGS follows suit, offering
more of what made the duo great. Rolf Lovland
and Fionnuala Sheery present another set
of gorgeous pieces that range from classically-tinged,
melancholy string tunes to uplifting vocal
tour-de-forces to sprightly reels.
Vocalist Russell Watson adds
finesse to the powerful "Always There"
with his grand tenor voice, while instrumental
songs like "Fields of Fortune"
and "Searching for the Past" call
to mind the intimacy of their debut album.
This is a beautiful release - another jewel
in the crown of Secret Garden.

Chakra Healing
Music
The Ison Method
CD AUD29.95

|
|
David Ison is a pioneering
force in the field of mind-body health,
best known for his "Ison Method,"
which involves the use of music for therapy
and rehabilitation. He utilizes his sonic
skills to help listeners balance their chakra
systems with this album of dreamy ambience.
Each of the seven tracks corresponds
to a different chakra center, using keynotes
that specifically target that chakra.
Musically, the atmospheres
presented here are heavenly and sublime,
with synthesized breezes that waft amidst
dreamy ambient melodies and the faintest
hint of angelic vocalese. The album is divided
into two therapeutic experiences: the first
is a descending chakra balancing session,
which starts from the crown and works its
way down to the root.
It will leave you feeling
grounded and in tune with the moment. The
second track is an ascending session that
awakens each chakra center as you move upward.
The relaxing nature of the music makes this
also ideal for meditation and cultivating
mindfulness.

Deleted Scenes
from the Cutting Room Floor
Caro Emerald
CD AUD30.00

|
|
This album has spent longer
at number one in the Dutch charts (27 non-consecutive
weeks) than any other. Deleted Scenes From
the Cutting Room Floor is so thoroughly
joyous and cleverly thought out it's almost
impossible not to be seduced by it. Emerald
is a conservatory trained jazz vocalist
and it's her consummate mastery of this
specific skill allows her to hold her own
against a fiery swing band, while focussing
on interpreting the songs not just hitting
the notes. These dozen songs ease their
way around swing, mambo, rumba and lounge,
as big rich vocals weave the kind of witty,
intriguing stories sure to draw you into
a world of loves lost, found and betrayed.
The orchestrations, too, understand the
styles to such a degree they can be subverted
with subtle modern twists to stop this being
a museum piece: the spectacular Absolutely
Me is what Cab Calloway would have done
if he'd ever had a drum machine; The Other
Woman features the funkiest xylophone you'll
ever hear, mixed with the sort of electric
guitar that ought to have its own 60s TV
theme.
