Be.
Do. Live
Be.
Do. Live
Rajeev Dewan
HC AUD35.00
In his introduction, Rajeev hopes
his writing will provide a synthesis, a best-of-the
best compilation taken from the universe of
answers to many question. One such question
from page 2 is - " What are the few things
that make the biggest difference in creating
and sustaining an outstanding life". A
personal health scare became the catalyst that
inspired him to write, this gave him the opportunity
to look at how he was living his life versus
how he wanted to live his life. If you have
seen the popular film- The Bucket List - you
will understand the concept. (A film that I
can highly recommend!)
With this purpose in mind I started
to read
. From my point of view this is
a very 'corporate' book and would be a great
resource for coaches or management consultants,
as it provides a solid and comprehensive framework
to be 'an agent of change' in either your own
life or your clients' life.
There is an enormous amount of
information, although there are plenty of diagrams
to help process the ideas- I personally would
have liked a more cut down approach The central
theme is a four step process - CREATE-ASSESS-RE-IMAGINE-OPTIMIZE,
Each step is broken down into a total of 56
levers and chapters.
I resonated with many of his ideas
and I could see very quickly his goal of synthesis
was met, however less words would have allowed
me to arrive in the same place without my head
whirling. Amongst the intellectual, over explained
wordiness, ideas seemed to be lost and scattered.
Each chapter has an exercise,
for example; chapter 4 is titled "What
is Your Real Target". The aim is to get
to the feeling state a having what you desire
in your life will be. The exercise is called
Five Whys. Essentially you take something you
desire, say money and then you ask the first
time "Why do I want more money. You write
down you reasons. For each reason you then ask
"Why do I want this?
write down
the answer and repeat the process until you
get to the point that you do not come up with
anything new and you are left with a feeling
state. This is a powerful exercise, for once
you arrive at the feeling a state a sense of
clarity enters your motivations. (pg 31)
Chapter 52 was the one for me. Titled "Grow
Your Holistic Intelligence". I had not
considered the concept before and really resonated
with Rajeev's definition of intelligence "
your ability to tap into all the available resources,
either consciously or subconsciously, within
yourself and /or others in order to achieve
a specific worthy outcome in the most effective,
efficient, and harmonious manner." (page
244)
In summary, this book certainly
has its place on the Phoenix shelves. I would
have liked a much more robust bibliography,
as this helps me connect to the writers journey
and inspiration, which in turn assists my own
journey.
As I was reading I often felt
as if I was in the middle of a corporate personal
development change program, if this is your
area of expertise then I would certainly encourage
you to add this book to your library.
