The
Gifts of Imperfection

PB AUD29.95
I first came across Brene Brown's
work via Ted Talks - an internet portal with
great video clips. Essentially her research
work has been around the destructive emotions
of shame and guilt. I found the video clip compelling
and pushing so many buttons that I knew I needed
to explore further.
When I started reading this book I felt as if
I wasn't grasping the key components of shame
triggers and so I stopped and read her first
book - "I Thought it was Just Me"
Coming back to The Gift of Imperfection
I found it was making more sense for me. On
reflection it most likely is because I had started
my own emotional journey into shame and its
triggers rather than a difficult writing style.
The essence of the book is about
living a 'wholehearted life' - a life full of
courage, compassion and connection. It is powerful!
Brene explains well her concepts and provides
many great stories as examples, they assist
with the learning process.
There are 10 guideposts to work
through, each working with a component of 'wholehearted
living'. At the end of a guidepost chapter is
an action step titled DIG Deep - Get Deliberate,
Get Inspired, Get Going.
This is not a book to read
once, the work outlined is tough going - however
I sense the rewards are great
as they
say - a work in progress.
