The
Moneyless Man
The
Moneyless Man
Mark Boyle
PB AUD35.00
From his early years Mark Boyle
had a passion to make a difference to the world
and to reduce the impact of waste on the planet.
As his working life progressed
he became disillusioned with what he saw as
business practices that did not support or nurture
the planet.
As time went on an idea, or maybe
mad scheme, was playing away in the back of
his mind -to live for 12 months without using
money in any of its forms. As the idea took
hold he made endless lists of what would be
needed to undertake such a year. And then he
set his start date!
He writes well and I found his
story compelling. Every page I was in awe of
what he was doing and found myself pondering
if I would have the courage and tenacity to
do the same
in most cases the answer was
a very firm- no! I did, however, reevaluate
the impact I made on the earth and have found
myself making adjustments to my consuming habits.
Aside from the physical and practical
challenges that confronted him, Mark experienced
some significant shifts in his inner world and
there is a very moving chapter around those
experiences.
As the year came to its end Mark
finds himself with the dilemma of stopping or
continuing. I won't spoil the read by telling
you of his choice.
What he does say in the last chapter
is that as the reader you may not want to go
to his extreme but maybe you will be encouraged
to make some shifts in your own life to benefit
the planet and the community around you.
